APC Urges To Stop Shielding Boko Haram Sponsor Sheriff

The All Progressives Congress (APC) accused the Federal Government and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in constant persecution of APC members, while it protects such people as Ali Modu Sheriff, the sponsor of Boko Haram. In its statement, the opposition party gave the example of the government’s actions of this kind.
The National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Lai Mohammed, published the statement in Ilorin, on September 16, 2014, in where he condemned the case with Danjuma Goje of the APC which occurred in Gombe this week.
Upon prior agreement to Mr. Goje was attached the policeman to provide safety during his visit. Suddenly, the policemen attached to him withdrawn citing the fact that he needed to answer ‘a summon’ of His Majesty the state Commissioner of Police. Shocked senator decided to end his visit. When he finally arrived in Gombe town and was more than 3 hours under illegal arrest Commissioner of Police warned him to cut his convoy to only two vehicles, without any explanation.

“This action is totally wrong and unacceptable. The police is a national institution that is maintained by tax payers, and it cannot afford to turn itself to the enforcement arm of the ruling PDP, no matter the temptation,” the APC said.
The statement pointed out that while the former governor and the serving Senator Goje was being tormented, another former Governor and ex-Senator, Ali Modu Sheriff, was landing in Maiduguri, where the federal authorities provided him with massive security, including four truck-loads of soldiers led by a Lieutenant-Colonel, about 50 SSS personnel, hordes of policemen and two armored tanks to escort him from the airport to his residence, which was also secured by armed troops and policemen.
Because of the incident in Gombe town, the APC asks the following questions:
“In the first instance, what qualified Sheriff, an alleged Boko Haram sponsor, for such a massive security while another governor and a serving Senator was subjected to incredible indignity?
“Why has the FG continued with its harassment and intimidation of opposition members, which played out massively during the Ekiti and Osun elections when many of them were arrested and detained without reason?
“Why has the FG continued to abuse national institutions in an unprecedented manner?”
Overall, the APC finds that President Jonathan himself is sabotaging his government’s fight against Boko Haram. The main opposition force also said that Jonathan should not oppress the opposition because the APC documenting all the abuses and, in the fullness of time, will present such to the nation, as well as the international community to show the level of political intolerance.
Earlier, in 2012, Ali Modu Sheriff, was arrested by Cameroon’s security forces, allegedly for his links with Boko Haram. But after a while he was released. His connection with the terrorist sect is not proved.
However, new details of the case have been clarified. Australian Negotiator, Dr Stephen Davis, has allegedly named the ex Governor of Borno State, Modu Sheriff, among Boko Haram sponsors. These revelations made many citizens and politicians believe that Modu Sheriff should face the ultimate trial for financing the recruitment of young men to the Islamist sect
