The coordinator of the National Information Centre on
Terrorism, Mike Omeri says Nigeria is on the verge of
winning the war on terror.
He also confirmed that one of the abducted Chibok girls has
escaped from the captors.
The Nigerian military has recorded a string of successes in
the past few days in the fight against terror especially with
the killing of its high-ranking leader Bashir Mohammed alias
Abubakar Shekau. 135 other insurgents have also been
captured.
Coordinator of the National Information Centre on Terrorism,
Mike Omeri attributes this feat to the renewed morale and
zeal of the troops.
He said, “We want to assure the citizens of Nigeria in those
areas that government forces would not waiver, we would
remain undaunted, strong and highly motivated in the
pursuit of the insurgents.”
omeri added that government has initiated a programme to
de-radicalise members of Boko Haram. He also said
government remains committed to securing the release of
the abducted Chibok girls and confirmed that one of the girls
has regained her freedom.
Emmanuel Ojukwu, Force Public Relations Officers said,
“One young girl of about 20 years of age among those
abducted by Boko Haram members was dropped at Mubi by
suspected terrorists. She has been picked up by the police
and is undergoing treatment right now.”
The Centre refuted the Amnesty International accusation of
human rights violation by the Nigerian military.
Omeri said, “Such actions shouldn’t be associated with the
armed forces of Nigeria. The historical antecedents does
not suggest nor support the claim of the kind of dastardly
acts that we have seen in such videos and we also want to
emphasise that the government of Nigeria has zero
tolerance for human rights abuses of any kind.”
The National Information Centre on Terrorism said President
Goodluck Jonathan’s presence at the ongoing United
Nations General Assembly, is to draw up global support for
the fight against terrorism.
