Chibok girls who escaped from Boko Haram captivity and were
afterwards sponsored to study in schools nationwide, complain of
negligence from the side of the state government.
Vanguard reports that the girls, kept at one of the Government lodges
in Maiduguri, Borno State, have been abandoned and are suffering from
hunger.
Last month the state government promised to take care of the 51 returned students and to allocate N100 million annually for their education in another state.
However the correspondent contacted one of the girls and learnt that
their current situation is far from being what it was supposed to be
with N100m budget.
She was quoted saying:
“Over 50 of us were kept in a single room with no enough food, as only two persons were left to take care of our feeding. Most of us came with only two or three pairs of cloths but we were only given N10, 000, five wrappers and a cellphone each for all that while.”
She also added that the embattled principal Mrs. Asabe Kwambula usually came and picked them in batches to undisclosed locations after seizing their cellphones to prevent them from contacting their families.
“As I am speaking to you now, they picked 26 of us mostly Christians to unknown destination and just yesterday they picked another 13, remained only 15 of us, she complained.”
The interviewed girl also complained of not having enough food adding that they can’t buy products themselves due to being under tight security.
It would be recalled that more than 200 female students were abducted in Chibok community of Borno State on April 14. Fifty seven of them managed to escape.
After an October 17 alleged ceasefire agreement it was provided that the missing children would be released in 2 days, however as of October 30, the girls have not reunited with their families.
