Arrest And Try TB Joshua - University Dons

A  group of Nigerian intellectuals based in the United
States of America are calling for the arrest and trial of
Prophet T.B. Joshua of the Synagogue Church of all
Nations (SCOAN).
This is in reaction to the tragic collapse of a 6-storey
guest house belonging to the Synagogue church in which
115 people were said to have lost their lives.
This was disclosed in a press statement jointly signed by
Olufemi Taiwo of Cornell University, Ithaca; Ebenezer
Obadare of University of Kansas, Lawrence; Akin
Adesokan of Indiana University, Bloomington; Wale
Adebanwi, of the University of California, Davis; and
Tejumola Olaniyan of the University of Wisconsin-
Madison, PM News reports.
The University dons are of the opinion that Joshua
deliberately tried to cover up the truth on what caused
the collapse in his church premises and therefore
deserves to be tried.
They faulted the church’s initial attempt to deny
emergency services and the media access into the
church premises when the incident occurred.
The intellectuals who also criticized TB Joshua for linking
the collapse to terrorist attack, noted that attempts by the
man of God to bribe journalist proves him culpable and so
he should be made to face the law for his role in the
unfortunate incident.
Reacting to the visits of Gov Fashola of Lagos state and
President Goodluck Jonathan to Joshua to commiserate
with him over the tragic incident, the University dons
expressed displeasure, wondering why the meetings were
not held in the hospitals where the victims are receiving
treatment or at the homes of the dead where their
relatives are still grieving.
They said: “ The president’s visit to the scene of the
collapsed building in which he commiserated with Mr.
Joshua was painful to watch. Why would the Nigerian
president visit and express solidarity with the leader of a
church who should be a person of interest in an ongoing
police investigation ?”
Irrespective of the high-profile visits by government
officials to the Prophet, they are calling for security
agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter and
unearth the truth.
T.B. Joshua has come under serious criticisms after the
Synagogue collapse. A group of South African youths had
said they do not want the prophet coming to their country
until they find out what really happened.
A Lagos based legal practitioner, Samuel Ilori, has also
said that he will sue Joshua , accusing him of been
responsible for the death of several people after a
building collapsed in his church’s premises.
