Ekiti Closes Down All Courts After Thugs Attack

Ekiti State authorities have ordered the immediate shut
down of all state courts after political thugs said to be
backing governor elect Ayo Fayose attacked law
officials.
The thugs had descended on Justice John Adeyeye,
beating him up, tearing his clothes for being allegedly
rude to Mr. Fayose.
The trouble ended the purposed tribunal sitting, as
judicial workers ran away from their post and ran for
safety.
The state Chief Judge, A, Daramola had issued an order
to all the state courts to not open until security officials
can guarantee security for officials of the law.
In a statement signed by hief Registrar, Obafemi
Fasanmi, said: “ The chief judge has noted with increasing
concern the spate of attacks perpetrated by political thugs
and their persistent presence in the premises of the high
court Ado Ekiti in the past few days.
This was the second time that thugs have descended on
a court in Ekiti, this week.
On Monday Thugs had attacked judge, O. Ogunyemi, the
statement added.
“ The sitting was disrupted and taken over. The judge was
ferried to safety by police after he was threatened by the
militants, ” it said.
The register alleged that policemen on duty looked away
as the thugs attacked the officials.
“On Thursday, another set of thugs invaded the premises of
a court presided over by J.O Adedeye by beating up and
tearing his suit while police on guard looked unconcerned
and uninterested as judges, magistrates, and other members
of staff had to run for their lives while court properties were
damaged.
Fayose Says
“The court room of the Hon. Chief Judge was not spared the
orgy in the orgy of assault and destruction as members of
staff attached to his office were beaten up and his court
record book torn into pieces by these political thugs who also
invaded and disrupted proceedings at the election petition
tribunal within the High Court premises in Ado Ekiti,” the
statement said.
Earlier this week, Fayose had accused the Chief Judge in
the state of belonging to the APC, he had said: I have
alleged him to be a member of the APC.
“Will it not interest you that less than 24 hours the judge has
turned in the case file. He is rushing the case to satisfy
certain interest. Our chief judge is an interested party, being
a member of E11
